Etihad vs Qatar Airways Business Class: Which Route Offers Better Value to Dubai?

Neither Etihad nor Qatar Airways flies you directly into Dubai from London — Etihad lands at Abu Dhabi, Qatar routes through Doha. Both are genuine options for a Dubai trip, and both are consistently cheaper in business class than the direct Emirates or British Airways services. The question is which one earns the detour.

The seat

Qatar Airways' Qsuite remains the strongest business class product in the sky on the aircraft that carry it. A fully enclosed suite with a closing door, direct aisle access, and the option of a four-person configuration for families or colleagues travelling together. It is close enough to first class that many passengers stop paying for first altogether.

Etihad's business studio is excellent but more conventional: a 1-2-1 herringbone layout with direct aisle access and a fully flat bed, and on the refreshed A350 fleet the finish is genuinely impressive. It is a very good seat. It is not a Qsuite.

Qatar Airways, provided you confirm your specific aircraft carries Qsuite — not all do.

The routing and total journey time

Abu Dhabi to Dubai is around 90 minutes by road, and Etihad offers a chauffeur or coach transfer on many business class fares. That can make Etihad effectively a one-stop journey without a second flight — useful if you dislike connections.

Qatar's Doha connection adds a short second sector into Dubai, but Hamad International is efficient and the connection windows are frequent, so total door-to-door time is often comparable.

Verdict on routing

Etihad, marginally — particularly if your Dubai destination is on the Abu Dhabi side of the city or you are heading to the Palm.

Lounges and ground experience

Qatar's Al Mourjan lounge in Doha is one of the best business class lounges anywhere, with à la carte dining and genuine space to work or rest. Etihad's Abu Dhabi lounge is comfortable and calm but does not reach the same level. On a long connection, that difference is felt.

The fares

Publicly, both carriers sit in a similar band from London to the UAE — typically £3,000 to £3,900 return in business class depending on season. Through private fare networks the picture changes: Qatar Airways to Dubai regularly lands around £2,100 return, and Etihad into Abu Dhabi sits at a comparable level, sometimes slightly lower on quieter weeks.

So which is better value?

If you are travelling on business, want the shortest practical door-to-door time, and would rather not connect twice, Etihad into Abu Dhabi with a ground transfer is the more sensible choice.

Qsuite wins on product. Etihad often wins on simplicity. The fare gap between them is usually smaller than people expect.
